Top 15 Des Coffeeshops DAmsterdam

Posted on April 22, 2025 by admin

If you’re looking for quality products you should skip The Bulldog coffeeshops. With 12 votes cast it’s the worst (and only) coffeeshop chain on our list. Some reviewers however point out that these shops are perfect for just chilling.

Located in the city’s historic Red Light District, The Bulldog quickly became a symbol of the city’s newfound tolerance towards cannabis. Unfortunately, at the time Bulldog seemed like the epitome of a touristy coffeeshop. It was well-known in the city, and every time we walked by a Bulldog location, the place was packed – often with obnoxious, rowdy frat-boy types from the U.S., U.K. Of course, plenty of other coffeeshops in Amsterdam were like this, but because Bulldog is so well-known, we avoided it entirely.

In 1974, this used to be a sex shop, which the owner – Henk de Vries – inherited from his father. One day, a guy walked in and asked Henk if there was also pornography with animals for coffee shop bulldog sale. This was the point that Henk de Vries realized that he no longer wanted to own a sex shop. After removing the customer from his store, he threw porn products into the canal.

I had clearly emphasized multiple times that we wanted something very mild, but it seems like they didn’t listen. I wouldn’t recommend here to beginners. The staff need to be more careful and attentive when making recommendations to ensure customers have a safe experience. Closing off our 10 worst coffeeshops in Amsterdam list is Het Gelderse on the Geldersekade in the Red Light District. This coffeeshop can probably best be described as a back-to-basics shop because it doesn’t really have a theme except for Che Guevara’s face.

Kashmir is a cozy, bohemian neighborhood coffeeshop in Oud-West on Jan Pieterheijestraat. It’s our go-to coffeeshop, not only ’cause it’s in the neighborhood, but because it’s the only coffeeshop where you can both drink and smoke indoors. Paradox Cafe is a small, cozy Amsterdam Coffeeshop that’s situated just off the Rozengracht. Although the coffeeshop is just a stone’s throw from the Anne Frank Museum, it attracts relatively few tourists – ideal for those who want a more relaxed experience. Amsterdam appeals to all kinds of travelers and a lot of them visit this spectacular city to enjoy its liberal ways of life. Prostitution is legal, laws are LGBT friendly and [if you’re interested] you can legally smoke weed here.

The Bulldog: Pioneering Amsterdam’s Cannabis Culture

The cells had been opened and had tables for customers to sit at. Fast forward more than a decade to 2012 and my opinion didn’t change even though it was not based on experience. I lived in Diemen for half a year and spent most of my time at the same place – Coffeeshop Solo. There’s also another place that sits right on the Diemen/Amsterdam line – I think it’s called the Smoker’s Emporium. I went to Smoker’s Emporium when I was low on funds and needed to save a little bit on weed. The place is essentially a walk-up window where you get your weed for cheap and get the hell out of there.

The Bulldog Bars

Imagine you’re in one of our coffeeshops with our very own 420 gear. We take care that our products reflect the quality you know and love from our iconic venues. The Bulldog Ex-Police Station opened its doors on April Fools’ Day 1985 and that’s no coincidence. Henk wanted to play a prank on the authorities and shock them by setting up a coffeeshop in the former police headquarters. You still won’t have to look far to find left-overs from the building’s previous life. The highlight are the cells, which we’ve transformed into cozy booths to sit with your friends.

This is a policy of “ignoring” where the government allows the sale and consumption of small amounts of cannabis by coffee shops, but does not actively seek the source of the supply. Great lesson in the history of Henk and The Bulldog. Weed is good (I recommend the gelato) and prices are decent. It’s also got a nice restaurant upstairs where you can also eat and smoke. Have you ever seen a coffeeshop inside a former police station?

Never changes still as it was when i first went in years ago. However prices have shot through the roof 4 pints & 1 vodka & coke £49.00. Try elsewhere theres much cheaper & better places in the area. Wherever you are on this site, just tap the green Coffeeshop Menus above to get back to the top of this page.

It first opened in 1985 and was also called the Second Living Room. Boerejongens Coffeeshop has a brass golden logo ceiling, marble interior combined with the big parking lot owned by the coffeeshop. It is  the one and only Flagship Store.
